Compulsive Eating Disorder
Compulsive eating
disorder is usually distinguished by uncontrollable eating
in large quantities. People who suffer from this condition
experience a craving to keep eating even though they are full. The
satisfaction is not met.
They will keep eating until they are
physically unable to consume anything else. They use their eating
habit to help deal with personal situations that are causing them
stress.
An individual with a compulsive eating disorder usually has very
low self-esteem, which is similar to a person that suffers from
bulimia or anorexia. A person that suffers from an over eating
condition will often say they will never overeat again, often
setting up diet plans and then suffering more feelings of
inadequacy and then reverts back to over eating.
Here are a few of the more common
behaviors of a person with compulsive eating disorder:
-
Chronic dieter
-
Think that food is the only
friend they have
-
Eats secretly
-
Avoids social
contact
-
Pain in their
joints
-
Mood swings
-
Low sexual
appetite
-
Sweat a lot
-
High blood
pressure
-
Frequently out of
breath
-
Insomnia
Compulsive eating disorder is considered
an addiction to food. People who cannot deal with daily stresses
will turn to food to make them feel better. People with this eating
problem will hide from society because they are ashamed of their
appearance but feel powerless to do anything about it. The first
step in solving any addiction is to admit that there is a problem
in the first place. It is important to seek medical help if you or
someone close to you suffers from this eating disorder.
An individual that suffers a compulsive
eating disorder will also be at risk for other serious health
issues. Some of these conditions include a higher risk of a heart
attack, a higher risk for high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Other conditions that could develop are kidney disease, arthritis,
stroke and even the deterioration of the person’s bones. As you can
see, this over eating problem can lead to serious issues that could
result in death.
