Anorexia Symptoms
Anorexia symptoms should not be ignored. If you suspect someone close to you with this
condition, try to convince him or her to get help immediately. The most common symptom that people will notice is weight loss. That is the
clearest single that someone could have a problem. However, a person suffering from this condition will also experience a number of problems with
their body.
Other anorexia symptoms that are not as noticeable are bone loss or osteoporosis. In addition, an
extreme sensitivity to cold is also one of the many anorexia symptoms. People with this eating disorder will experience a bloated stomach after
eating because their stomach loses its ability to deal with a normal amount of food due to the constant purging an anorexic will
perform.
Another of the anorexia symptoms is an interruption of the female’s menstrual cycle. Women may
need to take estrogen for the normal cycle to return. They will also experience the growth of a fine hair on their body referred to as Lanugo.
This growth is in response to the body's need for warmth. Often times the person, suffering from this eating disorder will develop a yellowing of
the skin. This occurs when a person gets too much vitamin A from eating too much of a certain food such as carrots.
One of the last of the physical anorexia symptoms is the thinning of the person’s hair. The
individual suffering from this eating disorder will also experience a number of behavioral changes as well. It takes the person's close family
and friends to notice many of these symptoms. The person will exhibit an extreme fear of gaining weight or getting fat, even if they are
underweight. They will consistently deny that they are losing weight or underweight. They will experience thinking that is confused and
disoriented at times because their brain is lacking fuel. They could spit out their food before swallowing it. They may even experience instances
of cutting their food into tiny bite size pieces. These are several of the many different behavioral issues associated with someone experiencing
this type of eating disorder. The main point is that if you suspect someone close to you suffering from anorexia, get them help as soon as
possible.
